Scope Scan2Recycle Program

Recycle with Scope Eyecare

Recycle your Hylo, Hycosan, OPTASE and Fusion and other hard to recycle household for free in select locations across the UK in 2023. Recycle with Scope is a fully sustainable disposal solution for hard to recycle plastics.

How This Works

Our aim is to make it as easy as possible for our customers and patients to recycle empty bottles and containers in their local communities. 24 products from across the Scope portfolio can be recycled in this scheme. Once deposited in the recycling units in participating locations, the used containers will be sent to MYgroup our expert recycling partner. Here, the plastics and metals will be separated and repurposed in new manufacturing processes.

You can recycle eligible Scope Eyecare products via the Scope Scan2Recycle scheme a full list can be found here

We do not accept any items that are easy to recycle (for example outer cardboard packaging), hazardous items or electrical items

Select ‘Sign up’ enter the following details

  • Title
  • First Name
  • Surname
  • Email Address
  • Address
  • Mobile Number

Then click ‘Sign up’, a code will be sent to your email.

  • Enter the code.
  1. Tap the Scan icon in the bottom navigation bar.
  2. Select ‘Press To Take A Photo’.
  3. When prompted, allow access to your camera.
  4. Once the camera window opens, take a photo of the item you want to recycle.
  5. Please use a light, plain background.
  6. Make sure the picture is of the front of the whole product, with the brand and product type clearly visible and not out of focus.
  7. Only scan one item at a time and make sure it’s the main packaging, not the outer one (e.g., a cardboard box) if the product has one.
  8. Choose the Brand > Product category > Packaging type from the drop-down list, if the item isn’t Auto recognised)
  9. The list has an intelligent search function, so you just need to type the first few letters of what you are trying to find.
  10. If you cannot find your category or type of product in the drop-down list, you will not be able to bank it, as it is not a qualifying item and it will not count towards your 5 items required for the Reward.
  11. (Any item labelled incorrectly will be rejected, and you will need to resubmit with the correct details).
  • Recyclables need to be validated prior to depositing, in order to check the recyclables are eligible for a reward and also to help keep the waste stream free of contaminants, or packaging that can be recycled at home.
  • A list of eligible Scope products can be found here
  • The validation will only take place during working hours (Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm, excluding public holidays) so you will need to plan ahead before you make your deposit to avoid disappointment in store.
  • For example, an item banked at 12:30 pm on a Monday will be validated by 12:30pm on a Tuesday. An item banked at 7:30pm Friday will be validated by 5.00pm the following Monday.
  • Once verified the Recyclables will be available to deposit at a participating store.
  • All the items that have been scanned, but not deposited are now showing in accepted ‘Recyclables’.

We advise that the product packaging is marked with a unique marker, especially if you have multiples of the same item. Our recommendation is to write a number on each item, for example, if you have 5 items that are the same, number them from 1 to 5.

If you are depositing these items the same day or within days of each deposit, then it is useful to have the main item in the foreground of your photo and the others in the background.

No, we just require a clear picture with the whole item in focus, clearly showing the brand and product in full view.

Partial pictures of products are not eligible as they make it hard to identify the product being recycled.

If you cannot find your product or packaging type, you will not be able to select the product (as it’s not in the list) it and it will not count towards your 5 items required for the reward.

Unless it is one of our excluded items for health and safety reasons (see full list further down) you are welcome to use the Recycle bin for items that may be hard to recycle but not eligible for a reward. There is no need to scan, bank and deposit these items through the web app.

Note: All products will be verified by our team behind the scenes and if we identify discrepancies between the image and the description, we reserve the right to withhold rewards or suspend accounts.

Go to your account, on the home page you can view a summary of your items or view the recyclables section of your account.

Meanings:

  • Accepted – Valid item and available to deposit
  • Pending – Image pending validation
  • Rejected – The image or product did not meet the Terms of the Scheme (see ‘Why was my recyclable rejected?’)

The reason will show in your account for review.

The most common reasons are:

  • Incorrect Product Tagging  – (Item has the wrong brand/ name and/or packaging description)
  • Item Full/Unused – product mused be used and
  • Already submitted –  (The exact same item/ duplicate item has been submitted)
  • Not an eligible picture –  (Not an eligible product picture)
  • Unclear Image –  (can’t identify the product, or out of focus)
  • Hazardous product –  (e.g. Aerosol, electrical)
  • Non-hard to recycle –  (e.g. cardboard packaging)
  • Not the whole product (product parts e.g. lids, bottle tops)
  • Image Rejected (Image low quality)
  • Does not meet T&Cs –  (anything not listed above that would exclude it from the scheme)
  • No Label on Product – If the label is removed, we are unable to identify the product, and unable to accept it
  • Back of Product or Barcode Only – We require an image of the product, clearly in view showing the brand and product type

Make sure you have set your phone to allow camera access when using the website.

The scheme is aimed at hard-to-recycle Scope products that cannot be put in the council home recycling.

Only items listed in the drop-down list in the Scope Scan2Recycle will be eligible for a reward.

You can view all eligible recyclables here

For health and safety reasons, we cannot accept the following items: aerosol cans, perfume bottles, nail polish bottles, nail polish remover hair dyes, hair removal cream, hair removal wax; body spray; brow and eyelash tints and any products or packaging that are labelled with a hazardous or dangerous materials symbol; safety razors and razor blades, disposable razors and razor heads; used PPE (disposable masks, gloves and visors); blister packs and foils; any electrical items such as; any medical devices, electrical or not; food packaging of any type, including crisp packets.

An aerosol is defined as a metal receptacle containing pressurised gas that sprays a substance. It typically has ‘pressurised container’ warnings on the back or a flammable symbol.

A pump or spray dispenser requires manual pump action to deliver the product and is not pressurised.

Aerosol examples: deodorants, shaving foam, hair mousse, tanning mouse, bath foams etc.

Aerosols are not accepted as part of the scheme.

Yes, please only return empty packaging. If your product is more than half full, empty as much as you can and do your best to clean your old product packaging.

All packaging that is deposited goes to our recycling partner, MY Group to be recycled, reused, or reformed into new products in the UK. We guarantee that nothing will end up in landfill or incineration.

Hard-to-recycle materials that cannot go through traditional recycling streams are made into other products, such as street furniture or shop fittings. They also go into a proprietary material called ‘Storm board’. Originally designed as a replacement for wooden plyboards to help reduce the demand and overuse of forestry products, this versatile material is now used in a huge array of products by many joiners, shop fitters, building merchants, and general home use.

MY Group offers full traceability – a key element in protecting our seas and environment from plastic waste. You can read more about them here.

For every successful deposit of 5 qualifying items, in a participating store and in accordance with the Scope Scan2Recyle Terms & Conditions, you will receive a voucher to redeem in-store for one of a choice of two free gifts.

The voucher must be shown at the participating store within 2 hours of issue

When you have deposited your 5 qualifying items, a voucher will be automatically generated and be available in the Rewards section of your account.

Rewards may take a minute or so to show and also you may need to refresh your browser. Click here to view your Reward Account.

The barcode is valid for 2 hours; for example, a barcode issued at 9:20 am it will be valid until 11:19:59

Once you made a successful deposit, look for the ‘Reward’ icon (depicted by a star) at the bottom of the web page. There you will see how many rewards you have in your Account that have not been viewed.

We recommend you refresh your browser after a successful deposit if not immediately shown.

No, unfortunately, the deposit has already been counted and cannot be used again to deposit items.

Deposited items cannot be retrieved or returned. Please do not remove items from the recycle bins for health and hygiene reasons.

No unfortunately not, items deposited cannot be retrieved for health and hygiene reasons. Please make sure you follow the Terms & Conditions of the Scope Scan2Recycle Scheme.
